Au erdem beginnt er zu predigen. Sein Rednertalent steigt ihm zu Kopfe und so erkl rt er sich selbst zum heiligen Antonius und verliert in einer Ohnmacht sein Rednertalent. Er gewinnt es zur ck, als er von dem Elixier des Teufels trinkt. Als nun auch noch eine junge Frau, Aurelie, die gro e hnlichkeiten mit der heiligen Rosalia hat, ihm ihre Liebe beichtet, will er das Kloster verlassen, um sie zu suchen. Lebensansichten des Katers Murr ist ein satirischer Roman. Der wie ein Mensch sprechende, denkende und gebildete Kater fungiert als Ich-Erz hler und Autobiograph, dessen chronologische Schilderung seiner Erlebnisse von seiner Geburt bis zum Zeitpunkt der Niederschrift zahlreiche ausf hrliche Kommentare und Reflexionen zur "Bildung des Lesers" enth lt. Indem Murr ein angeblich funktionierendes Rezept daf r liefert, "wie man sich zum gro en Kater bilde", setzt sich der Roman kritisch mit der zeitgen ssischen Trivialisierung der Bildungsidee auseinander. Hoffmanns Roman parodiert sowohl den K nstler- als auch den Entwicklungsroman, sprengt aber die Grenzen dieser Formen und wird so zu einem vielf ltig gebrochenen Gesellschaftsroman.
