Author Biography
Translating the beauty I find around me requires a medium that allows my drawing to work with it, as more than half of the art, and idea, is the drawing itself. I also need a medium that I can have lots of control over, but also perform some of the work for me. Watercolor allows many glazes while still sharing the drawing underneath, provides soft and bold colors, lots of light, and many different textures through play. It always surprises me with its possibilities and has a very magical quality about it that I feel translates fantasy with depth. Much like the music of songbirds and Celtic fiddle, gorgeous classical art, and pattern; watercolor excites and fascinates me, inspiring me to create and paint, always learning something new. " I pursued this love of illustration at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design in 2000. In 2003 I traveled abroad to Scotland to study at the Glasgow School of Art, and in 2004 I received my BFA in Illustration, continuing to develop my own way of working and creating fantasy imagery. In 2005 I began teaching at the Des Moines Art Center where I still teach today. Helping adults and children alike build their skills and identity in art. My work is an opportunity to give out love and the much needed inspiration of who we are destined to be. I create portraits and 'moments caught' portraying our beauty and spirit. We are so confined in this world with wants and desires, but deep down we are thirsty for truth and peace. My work is an outlet for me to bring that peace and joy to myself and others in hopes to strengthen the hearts of women and young girls. I currently reside in Des Moines, Iowa, my hometown, with my husband Brian, beautiful muses daughter Norah and son Jaxon, and our cat Talor (TeeTee).
