El trauma interpersonal temprano ocurre en el contexto de las relaciones más significativas para el desarrollo del ser humano. El viaje en el que nos adentramos no está exento de turbulencias y la primera pregunta que el terapeuta deberá responderse es: está mi paciente en un contexto de seguridad real, en el que no siga siendo maltratado? Si esa seguridad real existe, entonces pasamos al siguiente nivel: pueden sus cuidadores proveerle una experiencia relacional segura, estable, reparadora? Y si no es así qué necesitan para poder hacerlo? Pero el terapeuta es parte de la ecuación, entonces deberá responderse, además, esta otra pregunta: qué debo hacer (y cómo puedo hacer) para ofrecerle a mi paciente una experiencia de seguridad en la relación terapéutica? Y qué puedo hacer para ayudar a los cuidadores a ser los verdaderos sostenes de la vida y el desarrollo de estos niños y niñas? La construcción de una experiencia de seguridad relacional puede parecer frágil en la vida de estos niños, y eso muchas veces nos llevará a caer en la trampa del terapeuta rescatador, invalidando sin pretenderlo, a quienes deben ser los verdaderos escudos protectores de nuestros pequeños pacientes: sus cuidadores.
