Haruki Murakami (Kioto, 1949) estudió literatura en la Universidad de Waseda y regentó durante varios años un club de jazz. Es, en la actualidad, el autor japonés más prestigioso y reconocido en todo el mundo, merecedor de premios como el Noma, el Tanizaki, el Yomiuri, el Franz Kafka o el Jerusalem Prize. En España, ha recibido el Premio Arcebispo Juan de San Clemente, concedido por estudiantes gallegos, así como la Orden de las Artes y las Letras del Gobierno español y el Premi Internacional Catalunya 2011.
