En 1996, Sagrario murió baleada en la entrada de su residencia; los disparos alertaron a los vecinos, incluyendo a Hiram, el hijo mayor de la familia Ruvalcaba, de apenas ocho años. Poco después, en el año 2000, también a Rocío le arrebataron la vida de forma violenta: fue asesinada y sepultada a medias en la sala de su casa. En 2005, la frontera simbólica entre un asesinato noticioso, anónimo, y el de alguien consanguíneo terminó por quebrarse. El Jalisco rural y semiurbano se había convertido en una tolvanera de cadáveres, y uno de ellos era el del tío Antonio Ruvalcaba.
Author Biography
Hiram Ruvalcaba (Zapotlán el Grande, México, 1988) es narrador, atlista y profesor de literatura. Estudia el Doctorado en Humanidades de la Universidad de Guadalajara. Licenciado en Letras Hispánicas por la Universidad de Guadalajara e Ingeniero Ambiental por el Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Guzmán, además de maestro en Estudios de Asia y África por El Colegio de México. Fue becario del Programa de Estímulos a la Creación y al Desarrollo Artístico en Jalisco en la categoría Jóvenes Creadores en 2006 y 2019 y becario del Fonca en la categoría Jóvenes Creadores en 2021. Ganador del Premio Nacional de Narrativa Mariano Azuela, en 2016, del Premio Nacional de Cuento Joven Comala, en 2018, del Premio Nacional de Crónica Joven Ricardo Garibay y el Premio Nacional de Cuento José Alvarado, en 2020, y del Premio Nacional de Cuento Agustín Yáñez, en 2021. Publicó los libros de cuentos El espectador (2013), Me negarás tres veces (2017), La noche sin nombre (2018), Padres sin hijos (2021), De cerca nadie es normal (2022) y el libro de crónicas Los niños del agua (2021).
