An Introduction puts the text into historical context, Endnotes give historical insight into people and events, and the Index allows readers to look up many of the people mentioned in the text. By maintaining the same pagination as the original, the editors have made the book useful for those who wish to look up references in books by other historians. This edition also includes Potter's detailed maps of the Dade Battlefield and Camp Izard, along with a map of military operations in Florida. Author Biography
Woodburne Potter served as an aide to Maj. Gen. Edmund P. Gaines and was wounded at the battle of Camp Izard. Editors John & Mary Lou Missall are Seminole War historians. Their books include "The Seminole Wars: America's Longest Indian Conflict" (Univ. Press of Fla., 2004); "This Miserable Pride of a Soldier: The Letters and Journals of Col. William S. Foster in the Second Seminole War" (Univ. of Tampa Press, 2005); "This Torn Land: Poetry of the Second Seminole War" (Seminole Wars Foundation, 2010); "Hollow Victory: A novel of the Second Seminole War"(Florida Historical Society Press, 2011).
