by Michael James Jaquish (Author)

Updated in 2026 with a new layout and many additional illustrations, The Role of the Security Officer is now more user-friendly than ever before. If you are looking for a complete security guard training manual that prepares you for real-world conditions, this book delivers.

The Role of the Security Officer is a comprehensive security officer training guide designed for both new and experienced professionals. Whether you are entering the field, preparing for certification, or improving your on-the-job performance, this book provides the practical knowledge required in today's security environment.

Covering everything from observation and patrol procedures to legal responsibilities, report writing, and emergency response, this book provides the practical knowledge and skills needed to perform effectively in the field.

Written by a retired police chief, firearms and street survival, instructor, and international security consultant, this guide emphasizes professionalism, sound judgment, and legal compliance-where mistakes can have serious consequences.

A must-have resource for anyone working in the security profession.

Topics covered include: Crime & Loss Prevention, Security Guards & the Criminal Justice System, Legal Powers & Limitations, Security Observation & Awareness, EEO, Diversity, Workplace Violence, Homeland Security, Safeguarding & Sharing Information, Terrorism & Surveillance, Patrol Procedures, Access Control, Emergency Response, OSHA Life Safety & Accident Prevention, Communication, Report Writing, Defensive Driving, Armored Truck Security, Diplomatic Security & Blending In, Handcuffs & Handcuffing.

The author has written over thirty books on a wide variety of topics. He has over thirty years of experience as a line officer and trainer in a security career that has included law enforcement administration, diplomatic security, private investigation and armored truck security.

NOTE: This is the Unarmed Guard version. Those desiring firearms training may purchase the companion book to this one; The Role of the Security Officer: SURVIVING THE GUNFIGHT- Firearms Safety, Defensive Shooting, and Street Survival, also by Michael Jaquish.

A large format (8.5x11-inch) edition titled; The Role of the Security Officer- Instructor/Student Edition With Firearms Training is also available. That edition includes the firearms training section found in SURVIVING THE GUNFIGHT. It is an excellent choice for students but is also geared toward instructors. It contains five pages of guidance materials in the appendix for the instructor.

A Country Cop Books publication.
