The Harlem Line is the real-life adventure story of a successful African American executive, born in the Bronx in 1937, who has been a meteorologist, naval officer, entrepreneur, marketer, media guru, automobile dealer, financial adviser, and certified professional life and business coach. He is a mentor to many African American sisters and brothers. His trek to success is the epitome of the poem "Don't Quit," and The Harlem Line will inspire younger men and women, especially those of African descent, to ride their own Harlem Line to affluence and success. The memoir describes how he dealt with the challenges and obstacles to success, how they shaped and strengthened his character, and the lessons he learned as he progressed through life. The title is derived from his living in proximity to the Harlem (Railroad) Line all his life and how his achievements and setbacks correlate to where he lived relative to the regions and stations served by the line.

Author Biography

Waynett A. (Wayne) Sobers is an Energy Leadership Index(TM) Master Practitioner and a Certified Professional Coach (Life and Business). He is a graduate of CCNY (BS Meteorology) and Baruch College, CUNY (MBA International Business). An OCS graduate, he served as a U.S. Navy Officer for seven years attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Wayne possesses an extremely diverse business and leadership background. For ten years, he worked as a meteorologist and Technical Specialist for the U.S. Weather Bureau. During that period, he formed W.A. Sobers Associates, Inc., a firm specializing in all forms of insurance. Wayne's exciting media communications career began with Ebony Magazine as an Advertising Representative. Three years later he began a distinguished association with Earl Graves and BLACK ENTERPRISE Magazine that spanned sixteen years. He pioneered several vital positions in marketing, management and finance; was responsible for the acquisition and operation of two radio stations under the banner of E.G.G. Dallas Broadcasting Inc. He left the company as Executive Vice President to explore his own entrepreneurial desires. He became owner/operator of Sobers Chevrolet, Inc., Mooresville, NC. He sold the dealership and established WayVon, a small business consulting company. He was licensed in all forms of insurance for 30 years. Wayne was a Registered Representative for AXA/Equitable. He subsequently served as Executive Vice President for the nation's premier community development corporation, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. Wayne has been an Adjunct Professor at Westchester Business Institute and Mercy College. He later began a career in banking with Wachovia Bank where he served as a Customer Relationship Manager and Financial Center Manager. Wayne served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Equitable Variable Life Insurance Company (EVLICO), and a board member and treasurer of the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB).
