April 1899 antwortete Rosa Luxemburg auf Bernsteins neues Buch Die Voraussetzungen des Sozialismus und die Aufgaben der Sozialdemokratie mit einer zweiten Artikelserie zum Thema Sozialreform oder Revolution? in der Leipziger Volkszeitung. Darin bejahte sie den Alltagskampf der SPD um Reformen als notwendiges Mittel zum Zweck der Abschaffung des ausbeuterischen Lohnsystems. Bernstein habe diesen Zweck aufgegeben und das Mittel des Klassenkampfs, die Reformen, zum Selbstzweck gemacht. Damit habe er im Grunde die Mission der SPD f r historisch berholt erkl rt. Die SPD g be sich selbst auf, w rde sie dem folgen. Zu ihren engen Freunden geh rten Clara Zetkin, die inner- und au erhalb der SPD f r eine selbstbestimmte internationale Frauenbewegung eintrat, und Bruno Sch nlank, Chefredakteur der Leipziger Volkszeitung. Dort wies sie mit der Artikelserie Miliz und Militarismus im Februar 1899 die Thesen von Max Schippel zur ck: Dieser wollte das SPD-Ziel einer Volksmiliz als Alternative zum kaiserlichen Milit r aufgeben und sah die vorhandenen stehenden Heere als unentbehrliche konomische Entlastung und bergang zu einem k nftigen "Volksheer" an. Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919) war eine einflussreiche Vertreterin der europ ischen Arbeiterbewegung, des Marxismus, Antimilitarismus und "proletarischen Internationalismus". Sie ver ffentlichte eine eigene Artikelserie gegen Bernsteins Theorie, die sp ter in ihr Buch Sozialreform oder Revolution? einging. Darin vertrat sie eine konsequent klassenk mpferische Haltung: Echte Sozialreformen m ssten das Ziel der sozialen Revolution stets im Auge behalten und ihm dienen.
