Cristina García nació en La Habana, Cuba, en 1958 y creció in Nueva York. Asistió a Barnard College y a La Escuela de Estudios Internacionales Avanzados de La Universidad de Johns Hopkins. Cristina García ha trabajado como correspondiente para la revista Time en San Francisco, Miami y Los Angeles, donde vive actualmente con su esposo, Scott Brown, y su bulldog inglés. Sońar en cubano es su primera novela.
