Sierra squatted now to dig her hands in the solid ground beneath her; she pulled and called to the minerals in the soil, willing them to her, using her mind to shape them to form a spear. She pulled with all her might, and just as another daemon formed and lunged toward her, she yanked the spear out of the heady earth, leapt from her squat, and plunged that spear straight into the daemon's heart. The daemon's scream vibrated in the air around her, and then he vanished in a puff of black smoke. Sierra fell to the ground once again, this time, spent.
