Santiago Posteguillo, doctor europeo por la Universitat de València, es en la actualidad profesor titular en la Universitat Jaume I de Castelló. Ha estudiado literatura creativa en Estados Unidos, y lingüística y traducción en diversas universidades del Reino Unido. En 2006 publicó su primera novela, Africanus: El hijo del cónsul, el inicio de una trilogía que continuó con Las legiones malditas y La traición de Roma. También es autor de la «Trilogía de Trajano», compuesta por Los asesinos del emperador, Circo Máximo y La legión perdida.
Posteguillo recibió el Premio a las Letras de la Generalitat Valenciana en 2010, el Premio Barcino de Novela Histórica de Barcelona en 2014 y, en 2018, fue galardonado con el Premio Planeta por su novela Yo, Julia, a la que siguió Y Julia retó a los dioses en 2020.
