Author Biography
Marie Hall Ets (1895-1984) escribió e ilustró 22 libros infantiles y libros de no ficción. Nacio en Winsconsin, se graduó de New York School of Fine and Applied Art, el precursor de Parson School of Design, y comenzó su carrera como artista de bocetos para diseñadores de interiores. Su participación en obras de caridad durante la primera guerra mundial la inspiró a emprender obras sociales, y después de obtener un título de la Universidad de Chicago, se despeño como defensora de los niños de la Cruz Roja y otras agencias. Sus libros han recibido muchos premios, incluyendo cinco honores Caldecott y la medalla Caldecott en 1960 por Nueva Días para Navidad.
Aurora Labastida fue bibliotecaria infantil en la Biblioteca Benjamin Franklin de la Embajada de los Estados Unidos en la ciudad de México. A Labastida le molestaba la depicción, comunmente vista en libros infantiles, del mexicano con poncho andando en burro, especialemente por que muchos mexicanos viven en ciudades.
