On April 16, 2003, I contemplated suicide. The thought had a calming effect. The pain, misery, guilt and shame would end. On April 16, 2003, I heard a voice tell me to, "go ask for help." I obeyed. I was delivered from addiction to crack cocaine, heroin and alcohol. On April 23, 2003, I woke up from the first restful sleep I had in years and was quickened in my spirit. While on my way to a halfway house, doubt and fear crept into my mind. After all, I had been struggling to get and stay clean for more than a decade. On May 1, 2003, I heard a voice tell me to, "stand back and watch the power of your God." I haven't looked back since that day. I wrote a book about these experiences in the context of finding peace with God, myself and others. The book, "My Journey: Life after Addiction - The Lazarus Man," tells my story of deliverance from the valley of the shadow of death called addiction. I have appeared as a guest on radio program "Soul Solutions" 1360 AM, South Jersey, and a national radio program sponsored by the National Association of Adult Survivors of Abuse to talk about my experiences as an adult survivor of childhood abuse and drug addiction. I have also spoken at Men's homeless shelters in Philadelphia where I shared my story and journey to recovery. I am available, willing and strongly motivated to continue my journey sharing hope and inspiration to addicts and their families that we do recover.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Charles Barrymore Greene, 2nd is a licensed drug and alcohol professional with experience in the field of drug and alcohol counseling. He served as substance abuse evaluator for the Superior Court of Mercer County's Drug Court program, working with non-violent, drug addicted defendants. Charles Barrymore Greene, 2nd graduated with top honors from Eastern University where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Counseling. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin where he majored in Communication Arts. Charles is a certified Biblical Counselor and earned his certification at the Christian Stronghold Church in Philadelphia. He also holds a certification as a Certified Clinical Supervisor. Charles Barrymore Greene, 2nd began his helping career in the field of mental health in 1983. However, it was his course of study at Eastern University where Charles began to make sense of his past, chaotic family life and his own battle with substance abuse. Once completing work towards his MA degree, he began to work with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders and found fulfillment in his work and a new purpose in his life.
