What poetry deserves this time? What time deserves this poetry? This is a poetry that takes in, talks back, bites down at the questionable, the unintelligible, the intolerable. Hard hitting speech, rhythmically measured and aurally gifted, its words on occasion break apart, elide a letter or two. Eric Acosta elects consonance over assonance to say what. Say what? This is a poetry fully alive to coming alive. It registers confusion, ferocity and tenderness. "Of me, of you haunts the page." "Genderless sex gone / fluid / . . . wanting from so unattainable a distance." Addiction flirts and flaunts; alcohol is exorcised: "the whiskey jar had to be put out to pasture / I baptized the glass nine times / and it still sinned." Go with Acosta's motion flesh, there is wit a aplenty, "he wasn't a man, more a revolving door."

Eric Acosta's poems are multi-lingual multisensory Surrealist "aggregation of pilgrimage" into the 5th dimension, that "between it all" upside down reality, that uncanny valley full of "Lithic phantasms" "epistemic fur" "Tongues of illumination." Motion Flesh is a brilliant act of dwelling within the inexhaustible nothingness of the moment, replete with the intensities and idiosyncrasies of lived duration. The color of freeze dried, larvae infusions, moon fuzz and meat grinders, truth as a weapon of mass destruction, plexiglass tombs, ooze hangovers and gelatinous murk, tenable inhumanity, galactic contradictions, washing machines on rinse cycle and the inevitable moment when time eats space. Acosta's gift is an ability to hold together a precision of language with a seductive ambiguity of thought, a truly lucid delirium of encounter that persists through residues of texture and mood. In this work, deep meditation meets the struggle to maintain poise in the face of raw but often mundane existence.
