For each song you will find a reliable Spanish version (note that many translations on the Internet are inaccurate), a reliable translation and notes on the essentials: explanations of the grammar, verb tenses, and idioms plus interesting information on the composer, the recording artist/s, and the historical background and cultural underpinning of each song."Love Songs" was written to show readers the beauty and variety of these songs. It was also written for students of Spanish who wish to improve their accent, immerse themselves in the poetic rhythms of Spanish, expand their vocabulary and gain insight into Latin ways of seeing and expressing love. If you teach Spanish you will find the eleven pages of teaching suggestions useful. The format of the book is 8.5 by 11 inches and it has a coil spine which enables the book to lie nice and flat as you follow the words. You can listen to the songs by searching for them on Youtube. Author Biography
The author, Robert S. Thomson, holds a PhD from Yale U. in Romance languages. He has written three other books on the subject of studying lyrics: "Great songs for the English Classroom" (inspiring students to write about personal issues via a close study of thematically rich popular songs. 1980). "Italian for the Opera" (1990, 150 pp.) and "Operatic Italian" (2009, 460 pp.) use parts of speech as the framework to guide the reader to a deep understanding of opera libretti. Both books use hundreds of extracts from operas to illustrate their points and these extracts serve as an effective memory aid.
