by John W. Foreman (Author)

Why do so many business books feel useless the moment they come in contact with your day job?

Business books often contradict one another, each providing advice that's only helpful some of the time, and exhaustingly, your boss is going to cherry pick only the books that suit their way of working.

Additionally, too often leadership books push fundamentally changing your personality to look like some idealized leader, often some dude. That dude may not even be a business leader! They might be a marine, a mountain climber, or a politician. Their stories might inspire you to summit Everest, but they're not going to help you figure out the looming company merger or what to do with that struggling manager

In Leadership Wise, Chief Product Officer at Podium, John Foreman, delivers a different and refreshingly practical take on business leadership. The author moves beyond what a leader should look like, to discuss how you can make better decisions over time to help your organization accomplish its goals. Regardless of a reader's personality and background, John provides practical advice for how anyone can become a great leader just as they are by making more effective decisions over and over again. It's not about becoming a 5-star general or a mythical titan of industry, it's about making better decisions more often. In the book you'll find:

  • A structure for understanding and becoming comfortable with the unending contradictions of leading in business
  • Strategies for defining priorities, sourcing options, and choosing the best decision
  • Advice for channeling your emotions and company culture to more effectively solve problems

An engaging and hands-on exploration of how to lead real people in real companies by making the best decisions possible with the information you have, Leadership Wise belongs on the desks of managers, executives, directors, entrepreneurs, and founders everywhere.

Front Jacket

Too many business books are long on aspirational and motivational speeches and short on concrete business advice that you can use every day in the office. They may make you feel like you can scale Mount Everest, but they won't help you navigate the looming company merger or tell you how to deal with that struggling manager.

In Leadership Wise, Chief Product Officer at Podium, John Foreman, delivers a singularly practical take on business leadership. John goes beyond discussing what a leader should look like to show that you can make better decisions over time to help your organization accomplish its goals.

This book doesn't require you to magically change your personality. It's about helping you make solid, data-driven choices over and over again. You won't need to pretend to be a 5-star general or some mythical titan of industry. You'll just need to follow its straightforward and crystal-clear roadmap to making good decisions, frequently.

You'll learn how to become comfortable with the unending contradictions you'll encounter in business leadership. You'll also discover effective strategies for defining your priorities and those of your organization, considering options, and choosing the best course of action available to you. The author offers advice on how to channel your emotions and your company's culture more effectively to solve difficult problems.

The perfect resource for new and experienced down-to-earth leaders in real companies doing their best to make the best decisions possible with the information they have, Leadership Wise will earn a place in the hands of managers, executives, directors, entrepreneurs, founders, and other business leaders everywhere.

Praise for LEADERSHIP WISE

"Good leadership is one of the most important and yet most amorphous concepts in the world. In this book, John Foreman provides a framework to understand good leadership and a practical approach to making better decisions as a leader."
--Ali Rowghani, former CFO of PIxar and COO of Twitter

"Leadership is such an important skill, and yet if you asked ten people for definitions, you'd get ten different answers. John brings leadership down to earth with an approachable process for making the right calls."
--Farrah Kennedy, former COO of Mailchimp and GM of Franchise Gator

"Sometimes being a leader means having to move beyond the frame-works and playbooks. John provides great advice for how to think when situations get complex and ambiguous."
--Eric Rea, Founder and CEO of Podium

"John Foreman cuts beyond the clich駻idden jargon of most leadership books to share personal stories of failure, resilience, and triumph. Readers will appreciate the humble approach to advancing as a leader."
--Michael Sacks, Professor in the Practice of Organization and Management, Goizueta Business School, Emory University

"John challenges conventional wisdom that there is a singular 'right' way to be a great leader. His wicked sense of humor and relatable stories of failure and triumph will have you laughing out loud, while also reconsidering your own preconceived notions of 'right' that are holding you back."
--Darcy Kurtz, Chief Revenue Officer, Bento Box
