Dicho de otra forma, la esencia de la literatura, es crear otra realidad semejante, an loga, parecida a la existente, mediante la palabra. Mucho m s cerca en el tiempo, en el a o 1974, los cr ticos de la literatura Ren Wellek y Austin Warren, se alaron que lo espec fico de la literatura era la ficci n, lo que procede de la fantas a de un autor. Esto comprende, la creaci n de mundos y seres inexistentes en la realidad concreta y reconocible, a diferencia del discurso hist rico, que trabaja siempre con referencias reales. Pero si bien es cierto que la ficci n literaria solo existe en los par metros de la obra creada, muchas veces, est generada e influenciada por la realidad hist rica reconocible. Es as , que algunos autores, utilizan ciertos tipos de ficciones, para desde el terreno puramente art stico y literario, aludir al mundo en el que les ha tocado vivir, o plasmar en sus textos aquellos mundos que dependiendo de determinadas condiciones hist ricas, sociales o pol ticas podr an llegar a existir. Del estudio de este tipo de obras es que se trata este libro. Las utop as, distop as y ucron as, son ficciones que presentan sociedades alternativas a las de la realidad concreta. El libro consta de cuatro art culos, publicados originalmente en la revista VADENUEVO (Uruguay) y en el portal literario El buen librero (Per ). Comienza con el escrito titulado LITERATURA UT PICA, donde se abordan aquellas ficciones que describen el funcionamiento de estados ideales, alternativos a los del mundo real. Las obras estudiadas son: Utop a (1516) de Tomas Moro, Los viajes de Gulliver (1726) de Jonathan Swift, y finalmente C ndido o el optimismo (1759) de Voltaire. El segundo art culo se titula LITERATURA DIST PICA, y all se trabaja con aquellas ficciones que muestran un futuro desesperanzador, alienante, sin libertad y absurdo. Las obras estudiadas son: Un mundo feliz (1932) de Aldous Huxley, 1984 (1949) de George Orwell, y finalmente Farenheit 451 (1953) de Ray Bradbury. El tercer art culo, titulado LITERATURA UCR NICA, se detiene en el estudio de las ficciones que especulan sobre los posibles caminos que hubiera podido seguir una sociedad si determinado hecho hist rico no se hubiera dado como en realidad se dio. All las obras estudiadas son: El hombre en el castillo (1962) de Philip K. Dick y Watchmen (1986 - 1987) de Alan Moore y Dave Gibbons. Finalmente, se ha agregado al libro un art culo titulado NO SOLO UNA DISTOP A, que si bien es el estudio espec fico de El tal n de hierro, una obra del escritor norteamericano Jack London, es un art culo que posee un apartado final donde se abordan algunos temas tratados a lo largo de este libro.
