Los 10 a os que el general Omar Torrijos Herrera, autodefinido dictador convicto, confeso y converso , dirigi la naci n paname a no pasaron sin controversia, empezando por el golpe de Estado que lo puso al frente de Panam el 11 de octubre de 1968. Se empe en acabar con el colonialismo en distintos territorios, adem s de sumar su apoyo a naciones necesitadas de democracia, justicia y equidad, desde la independencia de Belice, el derrocamiento de Somoza en Nicaragua y de Garc a Meza en Bolivia, hasta recibir a los asilados pol ticos tras el golpe de Estado de Pinochet y al sah de Ir n, por petici n de Jimmy Carter.
