Author Biography
Hugo López Chirico. Melo, Uruguay, 1936.Director de orquesta, pianista. Alumno de Carlos Estrada, Igor Markevitch y en el Conservatorio de París de Robert Blot. Director de las orquestas Sinfónica Municipal y OSSODRE de Montevideo y Filarmónica de Mérida en Venezuela. Director invitado de orquestas latinoamericanas. Profesor universitario, fundó la cátedra de dirección de orquesta en la Universidad de la República en Uruguay. Ha enseñado armonía, análisis, teoría de la música e historia del lenguaje musical en su país y en el Departamento de Historia del Arte de la Universidad de los Andes en Venezuela. Ha escrito La Edad de la Polifonía (1983), La Cantata Criolla de Antonio Estévez (1987), La Partitura de Orquesta (1991), Conciertos en Tiempos de Guerra (2012) y la presente versión de La Partitura de Orquesta (2015). Fue responsable para Uruguay del Diccionario de la Música Española e Hispanoamericana (1992) y colaborador del diccionario Groves. En 1973 sumó a su actividad de director la de escultor. A los setenta y cinco años confluyeron sus esculturas con sus esquemas analíticos musicales bajo una forma de arte digital bidimensional a la que dedica actualmente su atención.
