Es acaso la culpa un mero y útil constructo teórico del que nos servimos para explicar y castigar determinadas conductas? Es suficiente con despachar la cuestión de la culpa alegando que esta misma no es más que una mera denominación de un concreto estado de animo, esto es, una convención lingüística para un determinado estado de agregación de la materia, en concreto, nuestra situación hormonal? Es inevitable detenerse ante el fenómeno de la culpa, puesto que no es baladí la cantidad de elementos tanto de la vida cotidiana como de los más complejos entramados teóricos presentes en disciplinas de toda clase, que precisan de dicho concepto a la hora de su desarrollo y justificación. Del esclarecimiento y comprensión de dicho fenómeno dependen ciertamente la legitimidad de innumerables hechos sociales, pero aun más transcendental y significativo resulta ser, que la inteligibilidad de una irrenunciable seña de todo ser humano, a saber, la conciencia, tenga como acceso privilegiado esta todavía opaca vivencia de la culpa solo porque el Dasein es culpable en el fondo de su ser y se cierra a si mismo en cuanto arrojado y cadente es posible la conciencia. Tal sería la hipótesis básica de Heidegger que queremos hacer nuestra. Testigos de la exquisita variedad de formas que ha acabado por llegar a adoptar a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad el relato de la experiencia de la culpa, hemos de sabernos cuanto menos azuzados a dar cuenta de la causa de tal proliferación simbólica.
