Con todo, en las últimas décadas se ha producido una auténtica revolución en este campo, apareciendo visiones y explicaciones que, con cierta frecuencia, acaban por desfigurar la verdadera naturaleza del misterio de la Palabra de Dios. Se hacía necesario un estudio nuevo y sereno que rescatara lo mejor de las explicaciones clásicas sobre la Biblia, con exquisito respeto a la doctrina del Magisterio, de la Tradición y, en realidad, de la misma Palabra de Dios, todo dentro de una delicada fidelidad a los principios extraídos de la teología de Santo Tomás de Aquino. Es el intento de la presente obra de Jorge García Reyes, que continúa la serie de tratados dogmáticos del mismo autor.
No obstante, no bastaba con rescatar la sana tradición teológica católica sobre la naturaleza de la Sagrada Escritura, sino que era necesario también, explicar y criticar las nuevas tendencias teológicas con el fin de preparar a los estudiantes al ambiente intelectual que hoy impera por doquier. Por lo que también se ha procurado exponer esas nuevas perspectivas, sus orígenes y sus deficiencias.
La presente obra está dividida en cinco partes. En la primera parte se desarrolla la relación entre Revelación y Sagrada Escritura con un número de cuestiones introductorias al Tratado. La segunda parte, centro de todo el libro y su parte más importante, se dedica al estudio de la inspiración y sus consecuencias (verdad, santidad, unidad, actualidad y perennidad). La tercera parte trata del canon de la Sagrada Escritura, su criteriología y su formación y desarrollo histórico. La cuarta sección se dedica al Tratado del Texto y su fidelidad a los manuscritos originarios de los libros sagrados. La última parte se centra en la hermenéutica bíblica.
El resultado es un libro que pretende proporcionar la doctrina segura clásica, pero actualizado con la exposición y crítica de las nuevas teologías.
