Ailton Krenak es, entre tantas cosas, periodista y escritor. Fue constituyente, asesor parlamentario y un histórico referente del movimiento indígena en Brasil. Vale la pena visitar la escena icónica de su biografía cuando, durante la asamblea constituyente de 1987, en un emocionante pronunciamiento en el Congreso Nacional brasileño, pintó su rostro de negro y dijo: "El pueblo indígena siempre vivió al margen de todas las riquezas, un pueblo que vive en una casa cubierta de paja, que duerme en esterillas en el suelo, de ningún modo debe ser identificado como enemigo de una nación". Hoy, con más de sesenta años, continúa manteniendo un discurso y una escritura potente y es una referencia intelectual en Brasil. Pero, por sobre todo, mantiene una calma contagiosa, nos cuenta del fondo de su casa, de los árboles, de las mariposas que siguen dialogando con él, en una incesante lucha por mantener sus pies y su cuerpo en el suelo de una comunidad indígena. Ideas para postergar el fin del mundo es fruto de dos conferencias y una entrevista brindadas en Lisboa, en 2017, que fueron reunidas y juntas conforman este volumen

Ailton Krenak nació en 1953, en la región del valle del río Doce, territorio del pueblo Krenak. Es activista del movimiento socioambiental y de defensa de los derechos indígenas de Brasil. Es uno de los líderes más destacados del movimiento que surgió durante el gran despertar de los pueblos indígenas en ese país. Contribuyó, también, a la creación de la Unión de las Naciones Indígenas (UNI). Su lucha en las décadas de 1970 y 1980 fue determinante para la conquista del "Capítulo de los Indios" en la Constitución de 1988. Es coautor de la propuesta de la Unesco que creó la Reserva de la Biósfera de la Serra do Espinhaço en 2005 y es miembro de su comité gestor.
