Dominick LaCapra realizó sus estudios universitarios en Cornell y obtuvo su doctorado en Harvard. Ha dedicado sus esfuerzos de investigación y enseñanza universitaria tanto a la historia como a la literatura y los estudios humanísticos. Se ha desempeñado como Director de la Cornell's Society for the Humanities, y también, desde 2000, como Director de la School of Criticism and Theory (SCT).
