Una vez concluidas las investigaciones de los Grundrisse (1857-1859), Marx se dio a la tarea con confrontar sus descubrimientos con la reciente historia de la economía política, partiendo de los fisiócratas, y dedicándose muy especialmente con Adam Smith y sus contemporáneos. No se trata de una historia de la economía política, sino, más bien de consolidar primeramente lo ya ganado en sus investigaciones anteriores (los Grundrisse) y criticando cronológicamente a los autores de la economía política, comprender primero lo que exponen; en segundo lugar criticar sus propuestas; y en tercer lugar integrar dichos descubrimientos a su propio marco categorial. Nacerá así lentamente, después de haber constituido la categoría de plusvalor en su trabajo previo (en torno a noviembre de 1857), la de precio de producción, fruto específico de estos Manuscritos de 1861-1863. Además de repasar materias del futuro primer tomo futuro de El capital, Marx avanza aquí temas de los tomos segundo y tercero que nunca editará.
Enrique Dussel: Nace el 24 de Diciembre de 1934, en el pueblo de La Paz, Mendoza, Argentina. Exiliado político desde 1975 en México, hoy ciudadano mexicano, es profesor en el Departamento de Filosofía en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM, Iztapalapa, ciudad de México), y en el Colegio de Filosofía de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNAM (Ciudad Universitaria). Licenciado en Filosofía ( Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina), doctor en filosofía por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, doctor en historia en La Sorbonne de París y una licenciatura en teología en París y Münster. Ha obtenido doctorados honoris causa en Freiburg (Suiza) y en la Universidad de San Andrés ( La Paz, Bolivia). Fundador con toros del movimiento Filosofía de la Liberación. Trabaja especialmente en el campo de la Ética y la Filosofía Política.
