In 1996, The Sporting News named him "The Most Powerful Person in Sports." He is the recipient of an Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement and the NFL's Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award, and he is a member of the US Olympic Hall of Fame and the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.
