Randy's desire to be with her is overpowering, so they also book passage. The young men make the last minute effort to vault forward to 2012 via their (1912) homemade copy of the time machine. They experience the implosion, however, it was a failure - they are still aboard. The new century media has a field day with the Titanic sailing past the Statue of Liberty 100 years late.
