Author Biography
José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi (El Pensador Mexicano). Nació en la ciudad de México en 1776 y murió en 1827. La Constitución española de 1812 permitió el ejercicio de la libertad de imprenta, de la que no se había gozado hasta entonces en la Nueva España. Aprovechando este derecho, Lizardi fundó el periódico El Pensador Mexicano, cuyo nombre sería después su seudónimo. Es una de las figuras más interesantes de la literatura mexicana, por la época de transición en que le tocó vivir y por la posición que en ella asumió a favor de las ideas de independencia y liberalismo. Él inicia formalmente la novela hispanoamericana.
