Paul Preston (Liverpool, 1946) es catedrático de historia contemporánea española y director del Centro Cañada Blanch para el estudio de la España contemporánea de la London School of Economics & Political Science. Educado en Liverpool y en la Universidad de Oxford, de 1973 a 1991 fue sucesivamente profesor de historia en la Universidad de Reading; en el Centro de Estudios Mediterráneos, en Roma; y en el Queen Mary College de la Universidad de Londres, donde ganó la cátedra de historia contemporánea en 1985. En 1991 pasó a la London School.
