Se discute por qu surgi el uso de la palabra "espiritero" y examina c mo se ve an los espiritistas a s mismos. Se abordan varios aspectos de la vida espiritista tales como la funcionalidad de un centro espiritista, el nuevo l xico que llega a Puerto Rico y el que, al parecer, nace en la Isla. Esta obra recalca la necesidad impostergable de estudiar la literatura producida por medio de la supuesta comunicaci n de los esp ritus, muestra los v nculos asociativos del espiritismo con la masoner a y el librepensamiento. A su vez, explica c mo y por qu surgi la idea de crear una federaci n de espiritistas en Puerto Rico y en el mbito internacional. Asimismo, este libro contiene un ap ndice en el cual se incluyen los nombres de los centros espiritistas, en algunos casos, con la fecha de fundaci n y los componentes de su primera directiva o la m s antigua en la documentaci n consultada.
Author Biography
Nació en Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, en 1979. Es Doctor en Filosofía con especialidad en Historia, por la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Ha presentado trabajos en congresos a nivel internacional. Fue Presidente del XV Congreso Latinoamericano sobre Religión y Etnicidad. Ha sido autor de diversos artículos en torno a movimientos religiosos en Puerto Rico. Fue autor de los libros, _La Iglesia Católica en Puerto Rico ante la invasión de Estados Unidos de América: Lucha, sobrevivencia y estabilización (1898-1921)_, _La salud y la labor social: Ministerio de las Siervas de María, Ministras de los Enfermos de PUerto Rico (1887-1921)_ y _La Cieguecita de la Cantera: Obras completas de Josefa Martínez Torres, primera mujer novelista de Puerto Rico_.
