Author Biography
Edgar Hernández nació en Cuba. Su inicio como músico profesional fue, en Santiago de Cuba, como bajista y director de una charanga llamada "Sierra Cristal". En la Habana, formó parte del "Grupo Repeché" (desde 1980 hasta 1982). Este grupo tuvo dentro de sus integrantes al prominente cantante Pío Leiva; el cual, se dio a conocer internacionalmente como integrante de la orquesta "Buena Vista Social Club". Sus próximas experiencias importantes dentro de Cuba fueron las siguientes: bajista, compositor, arreglista y director del Conjunto Casino; bajista de la Orquesta Benny Moré; bajista de la Orquesta Tropicana y bajista del Conjunto Rumbavana. En 1994 Edgar pasa a residir en Los Angeles, Estados Unidos; donde, en 1996, fundó la orquesta "La Charanga Cubana". Con esta orquesta Edgar ha grabado tres CDs, ha participado en los carnavales de la calle 8 en Miami, y tocó en una fiesta privada para la familia "Bacardí" (dueños del ron Bacardí) en las islas Bahamas. La vida artística de Edgar no se limita solamente a las composiciones, los arreglos y a tocar el Bajo. Él ha dedicado mucho tiempo al estudio técnico de la música cubana; llegando a escribir cuatro libros. El primero de estos libros se titula "Morfología del Tumbao" (para piano); el segundo, "La verdadera esencia rítmica de la clave del son cubano"; el tercero, "El Arte de Hacer Música Cubana"; y el cuarto, "Los tres poderes de la música cubana". Actualmente, está contratado por CALSTATE Los Ángeles, bajo un programa de lecciones privadas. A continuación se relacionan los nombres de prominentes personalidades con los que Edgar ha compartido escenarios en diferentes tipo de eventos: Celia Cruz, Andy García, Edward James Olmos, Israel López Cachao, Oscar D' León, Willy Chirino, Albita Rodríguez, etc. Esta es la lista de los albums grabados por Edgar en su carrera artística: tres con el Conjunto Casino, tres con la Charanga Cubana y uno con el Grupo Timba. Vale destacar que Edgar fue nominado a un Latin Grammy en el 2007, con la Charanga Cubana y su Album "A comer chicharrón". Edgar grabó el bajo en un tema de la película "Dance With Me" - protagonizada por Chayane & Vanessa Williams. Y su música forma parte del sound track de las siguientes películas y series de televisión: "Club Dread"; "The Bases Are Loaded"; "Aquamarine"; "Be Kind Rewind" --protagonizada por Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover y Mia Farrow--; soap opera "One Life to Live" y la serie de TV "Cane".
