By decreasing the consumption of processed carbohydrates and eating whole grains such as oats, quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat in moderation, the body produces less insulin, thereby storing less fat. The hunter-gatherer diet also helps to eliminate the unnatural cravings and hunger that processed food and high sugar diets promote. The second factor is based on the latest findings on how to help people associate feelings of joy and excitement with weight loss rather than the traditional feelings of deprivation, pain, and hunger. Author Biography

Etrulia Reid "Troy" Lee (Dr. Troy) is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has resided in the Washington, D.C., metro area since 1978, and currently makes her home in Fort Washington, Maryland, where she lives with her husband Arvid Lee. She has two adult sons, Chay and Michael. Dr. Troy has been in the field of education for over thirty years. She completed her undergraduate work in education at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania, and her master's degree at the University of Maryland in College Park, also in education. She completed her Ph.D. in holistic nutrition at Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Troy began her career as a classroom teacher, and has held various positions in the education field, such as coordinator for a day care for disabled preschoolers, consultant to group homes for physically and mentally disabled children and adults, instructor at the USDA graduate school, school principal, education division superintendent for a Christian ministry, author, and speaker. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Global Health College, where she teaches nutrition. An interest in healthy eating and weight control were topics that interested Dr. Troy for many years. It was in her role as school principal in 1998 that her interest turned into a passion. It was there that she discovered that an alarming percentage of children had allergies and asthma and that these conditions were due in part to children being born with compromised immune systems. Research suggested that this was as a result of poor nutrition during pregnancy, despite the fact that the mothers followed the recommended nutritional guidelines and took prenatal vitamins. The quality of the standard American diet was so poor that it put children at risk. This inspired her to learn more about nutrition so she could share this information with parents. Dr. Troy challenges her audiences to evaluate how their lifestyle and diet are contributing to the many illnesses they may have, and how it puts them at risk for future disease and premature death. She offers personal coaching and facilitates support groups for people wanting to change their eating habits.
