The central nervous system comprises the brain and spinal cord. Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. It deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and diseases involving the central and peripheral nervous system.The evaluation of a patient with neurological disorder involves history taking and the neurological examination: clinical evaluation. The information obtained from the clinical evaluation is important to determine where the problem exists in the nervous system: the key process in developing the differential diagnosis. The second part continues with the neurological examination dedicating a chapter to each aspect of the nervous system for clearer and easier assimilation. Certain examinations which are no longer popular are also described as they still give important information regarding the diagnosis. The challenge of evaluating the unconscious patient necessitates the dedication of a chapter to the unconscious patient in this book.In addition, there has been an overreliance in investigations in recent times to make a diagnosis irrespective of the fact that a great percentage of diagnosis in neurology can be made by good clinical acumen. Clinical Neurology Made Easy is therefore a reminder of the importance of a detailed methodical clinical evaluation. It also gives assurance to doctors and neurologists in poor resource settings that the diagnosis of neurological disorders is not impossible but rather, it is within reach with good clinical evaluation.

Author Biography

Dr Bertha Chioma Ekeh: B, Med Pharmacology, MBBS, FMCP( Neurology) is a senior lecturer and consultant neurologist in University of Uyo/ University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. She graduated from University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria with an MBBS in 1995. She underwent her residency programme in Internal Medicine with neurology as her subspecialty: training in Jos University Teaching Hospital and University College Hospital Ibadan both in Nigeria. Her passion for neurology and neurology education came from her own struggles as a medical student with understanding the nervous system. Having taking time to gradually study and understand neurology, she has successfully passed down the knowledge to different sets of medical students in different parts of her country (Nigeria) for the past 14 years. She is a member of various international neurological organisations and has participated in many local and international neurological conferences. This book arose from her passion to present the clinical neurology in a simplified methodological way without compromising details and knowledge thereby enhancing the clinical knowledge of neurology all over the world.
