La Brev sima relaci n fue escrita por fray Bartolom de las Casas y dedicada al pr ncipe Felipe -quien fue posteriormente el rey Felipe II de Espa a-, encargado por el rey Carlos V, su padre, de los asuntos de Indias por aquel tiempo. Con su obra, las Casas quiso que el futuro rey de Espa a conociera las injusticias que comet an los espa oles en Am rica. Hacia 1539, las Casas comenz en M xico la redacci n de la Destrucci n de las Indias. En 1542, estando en Espa a, acab una primera redacci n. Un resumen de la obra parece ser que le fue le do al rey Carlos I y luego p blicamente en la Comisi n de Valladolid que dieron lugar a las Leyes Nuevas. En 1546, tras el fracaso de dichas leyes, a adi alg n comentario m s. Despu s, en 1547 la aument con algunos p rrafos e intent imprimir una versi n muy retocada usando el seud nimo: Istoria sumaria y relaci n brev sima y verdadera de lo que vio y escribi el reverendo padre fray Bartolom de la Pe a. En 1552, imprimi en Sevilla, en la imprenta de Sebasti n Trugillo y sin pasarla por censura previa la versi n primera, de nuevo ampliada con informaci n reciente: Brev sima relaci n de la destrucci n de las Indias. De la primera Brev sima se conserva un manuscrito hol grafo en el Archivo Hist rico de la Provincia de los Dominicos de Arag n, en Valencia. Las Casas no tuvo consecuencias por haber publicado la Brev sima. La obra no fue recogida hasta la c dula real del 21 de septiembre de 1556 (que no la cita espec ficamente). Este libro no fue censurado en Espa a y pudo circular libremente, tal vez por el respeto que la corona espa ola ten a respecto de su autor.
