Sin embargo, los latinoamericanos comparten una serie de características culturales que los hacen parecer mucho más uniformes, como una actitud que podríamos llamar festiva ante la vida, un enorme aprecio por la amistad, la familia, la conversación y el pensamiento y una gran afición por el deporte, la política y la música popular. Los une, además, un pasado histórico bastante común, que explica también muchas de las diferencias observadas, y que trataremos de resumir en este pequeño manual.Esta obra es una síntesis de la historia de la región, desde los orígenes del hombre americano hasta nuestros días. No se pretende en este libro dar una descripción pormenorizada de acontecimientos, profundizar en ninguna de las historias nacionales o generar nuevos conocimientos históricos; tan sólo se quiere presentar una visión de conjunto, a modo de primera aproximación al conocimiento de la historia de América Latina. Son muchas las fuentes de las que se ha extraído información para conformar este texto, pero no se indican las referencias a lo largo del ensayo para preservar la sencillez y facilitar la lectura. En todo caso, se remite al lector -al final de la obra- a una bibliografía que le permitirá ampliar la comprensión histórica de la América Latina.
Author Biography
Alberto Silva nació en Caracas, Venezuela, en 1947, y vive en Miami, Estados Unidos. Es ingeniero civil, egresado de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, y ha realizado estudios de postgrado en varias universidades, incluyendo un Doctorado en Administración de Empresas por la Universidad de Almería en España. El Dr. Silva ha ocupado posiciones gerenciales de importancia tanto en el sector público como en el privado. Actualmente es profesor a tiempo completo en Keiser University. Ha publicado libros de gerencia, biografía e historia, entre los que destacan las biografías de tres importantes personajes venezolanos, todos ellos nacidos en Cumaná, la ciudad donde este autor pasó su infancia: Antonio José de Sucre, héroe de la independencia de Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú y Bolivia; José Antonio Ramos Sucre, un destacado poeta de comienzos del siglo XX; y Andrés Eloy Blanco, político, poeta y humorista.
