Author Biography
LTC Eric Hiu (USA, Ret.) is a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland with a degree in history and was commissioned as an infantry officer through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School. His twenty-seven-year career includes rifle platoon leader and company executive officer in the 27th Infantry Regiment; company commander in a mechanized infantry unit in the 9th Infantry Regiment; commander of a headquarters and headquarters company in an air assault battalion in the 503rd Infantry Regiment; and a small group instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, where he was responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing junior captains and senior lieutenants for command and staff positions. He also served as future operations planner in Multi-National Corps, Iraq; joint operation plans officer in the U.S. Second Fleet; director of the Office of Concepts and Doctrine at the U.S. Army War College; operational planner with the Special Operations Joint Task Force, Afghanistan; chief of global force management, U.S. Army, Europe; chief of East/Southeast Asia Plans, U.S. Army, Pacific; and chief of Joint Concepts in the Army Futures Command, the command tasked with modernizing the army for future readiness. LTC Hiu has received awards including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
