A New Method for a Timeless Ordeal MacGregor Mathers published a book that introduced the magical ordeal to the magicians of the 20th century. That book was called The Book of Abramelin and contained an arduous preparation practice that lasted six months to manifest the Holy Guardian Angel, which instructed and guided the adherent. To use them, the magician had to undergo many months of prayer, meditation, fasting, purification, abasement, and a period of complete sequestration.
