Apunta también a restablecer una perspectiva histórica contra el anacronismo hoy fuertemente extendido que proyecta sobre la Europa de entreguerras las categorías de nuestra democracia liberal como si se tratara de normas y valores atemporales. La tentación es tanto más riesgosa cuanto que la guerra civil es precisamente un momento en el cual esas normas se revelan caducas. Sólo si no consideramos la democracia solamente como un conjunto de normas sino también como un producto histórico, podemos entender el lazo genético que la une a una época de guerra civil.
Enzo Traverso es un historiador italiano nacido en 1957, que vive y trabaja en Francia desde hace más de veinte años. Fue militante de la organización Poder Obrero y actualmente ejerce la docencia universitaria en la Universidad de Picardía y en la École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
