After joining the Communist Party, Neruda was elected to the Chilean Senate but was forced to live in exile in Mexico for several years. Eventually he established a permanent home on Isla Negra. In 1970 he was appointed as Chile's ambassador to France; in 1971 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eTomás Q. Morín: Tomás Q. Morín was born in Texas and educated at Texas State University and Johns Hopkins University. He is the recipient of scholarships from the Fine Arts Work Center, Bread Loaf Writer's Conference, and the New York State Summer Writers Institute. His debut volume of poetry, \u003ci\u003e A Larger Country, \u003c\/i\u003e won the APR\/Honickman First Book Prize.
